Well, I went and did it!

Yep, I set up another blog even though I barely have time to spend on this one. Well, actually, I have time, I just like doing other things too.

You see, blogging just has a way of worming itself into the fabric of ones existence and making it impossible to do all the other things one likes to do. Unless, of course, one is diligent enough to exercise great control over the blogging impulse. Me? I got no control. I just blather on like an idiot in this blog and hope no one actually sees it. (Is no one one word or two? I forget.)

So, while I am somewhat able to curb the impulse to ramble on, here’s some info about my other blog:

  • It is work-related and offers helpful hints about managing organizational compensation (I think they’re helpful but you can decide for yourself.)
  • My company does know about it but can pull the plug so I can’t get too carried away with sharing comp info
  • I promise to keep the plugs for my company (BLR) to a minimum (At least until the marketing types find out about it. When that happens, all bets are off.)

I hope you’ll check it out — http://compable.wordpress.com

PS: I’ve finally licked my addiction to Storage Wars!

Shedding light

It started a few months ago …

It began as a simple search for the perfect lamps for my bedroom. Not a hard thing to do. Just go to a couple of stores, check out their inventory, compare prices, pick one, and done.

Five stores later …

So, now I’m online and looking for a bargain on a great looking pair of lamps. But not just any old lamps will do. I’m pretty picky when it comes to lamps. Okay, I’m picky about a bunch of stuff.

Anyhoo, after wading through a gazillion websites, I narrow the field down to ceramic lamps with cylindrical shades. Easy, right?

Wrong. If i like the lamp, it costs too much. If it’s priced right then it’s not quite right or even just plain ugly.

The quest continues …

Just when I’m on the verge of throwing in the towel (but, don’t get me started on towels), I walk in to J. C. Penny and there it is. The lamp of my dreams. In two colors – ivory or the perfect green. On sale!

Guess how many they had in stock?

Yep, one is ivory and one is green and of course I need two the same color.

So, back to the Internet …

Found ’em. Bought ’em. Got ’em in three days. Not a chip or dent anywhere.

Who knew the JCP I grew up with, the store where my mom bought all our school clothes eons ago, has such nice stuff — and so reasonably priced, especially when on sale.

Perfect!

Full disclosure …

I realize this sounds like an ad for JCP but it isn’t. I do not work for or have any association with JCP other than as a customer. Though I love the lamps I found there, their store service could be improved. If they’d been on their toes, the store clerk would have at least offered to order them online for me.

Not so perfect.

I think I have a problem because …

A few weeks ago I was piled up on the couch waiting for the meds to kick in and take away the sinus headache that was ruining my day. I was flipping channels as I whined and cussed and came across something that actually took my attention away from the throbbing in my face and head.

Storage Wars

I am not a fan of reality TV. I find it annoying. When it comes right down to it, I watch TV to be entertained, not appalled, which is what most of reality shows seem to be aiming for. Anyway, I clicked on a show called Storage Wars. It’s a 30-minute show about auctioning the contents of storage lockers that have been abandoned by their owners. There are two versions, with one set in California and one in Texas. These auctions draw a pretty big crowd and there are “stars” of the show that are the focus of the bidding.

I’m not sure if the show is really entertaining or if I was just weirded out on sinus meds that day, but I couldn’t stop watching it. I stuck with it well after the pressure in my noggin subsided and I even missed my Saturday afternoon nap. I don’t know about you, but it takes an awful lot to make me miss a good afternoon nap.

I love a good auction and go them as often as I can muster up enough extra cash to buy junk I really don’t need so I’m chalking up my fascination with Storage Wars to my not having been to an auction in months.

Well anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Otherwise, I might just have to admit that I’m becoming addicted to reality TV.

Not a pleasant thought.
